A day on the marshes

A day on the marshes.

We had a lovely drive to Dunwich this morning. Kelly and I took up the offer of one night’s free stay at a lovely cottage overlooking the marshes.

After spending the afternoon on the beech, and plucking up the courage to go for a swim, we are sitting in the observation lounge, having a drink, spying the landscape with a couple of binoculars.

Around 17:00 there wasn’t a huge amount to see, apart from what appeared to be a female pheasant with about 3 chicks.

Then we discovered something peculiar. There was a heard of cows, about 20 of them, in the field not far from us. I suddenly realised that the cows’ moo’s followed a pattern. It started with the normal “Moo”. Then it was followed by a slightly longer one, then longer again until you have about 5 or 6 in a row. They seemed to follow this pattern for about 5 minutes, during which time they only messed up a couple of times. I guess one must have had a mouth full of grass. 🙂

We were wondering how often this happens? They moved on to a different part of the field shortly after. Were they arguing about which part to graize next?

Please leave us you comments.

Have a fab day all
